HistoryPioneer yearsIn 1994, StreamZilla founder Stef van der Ziel produced his first webcast at age 21. It was the first time a 'user' was able to broadcast worldwide without the aid from broadcasters, cable operators, universities or telecom operators.
In 1995 Van der Ziel started a leading webcast production and web design company. He was the executive producer of a +55 staff that produced large scale webcast productions for pop music festivals, governments and enterprises. Developing technologiesIn the 1995 to 2001 years, many industry firsts were realized. The first webcasts in realaudio, realvideo, windows media and quicktime technologies. The largest webcasts with +20K audiences. The first user generated content. The first decentralized distribution server setup to handle the increasing loads over multiple access providers, and so on.
By lack of availability many innovative and unique streaming media and CDN technologies were developed in-house. Log processing tools for analysis. Smart asset and relay distribution. Intelligent monitoring and management software. Geographical recognition and dynamic user redirection software.
In 2001, Van der Ziel decided to switch the company focus from webcast production to streaming and CDN technologies. The leading webcasting position was outsourced to video production partners.
In 2002, Jet Stream BV was launched. Jet Stream focusses on advanced CDN and streaming media software development, projects and consultancy. Jet Stream quickly became market leader in the Netherlands and Belgium. StreamZilla early yearsIn 2003, StreamZilla was launched as a demonstration service for the companies technologies. StreamZilla uses Jet Stream key technologies and launched on the best performing networks and datahouses in the Netherlands. Customers can stream in RA, WMV, MOV, MP4 and 3GP formats and get in-depth professional statistics. The unique, transparent e-commerce website was a success: StreamZilla was profitable in the first year.
In 2005, StreamZilla introduced Flat-Fee volume streaming. Instead of paying per GB, customers can order dedicated media server capacity with dedicated, guaranteed capacity links, at a extremely low monthly rate.
In 2006, StreamZilla went international. StreamZilla invested heavily in international capacity, translation of the services, e-commerce, multilingual support and a resedigned website. This resulted in a fast growth. Realvideo support was stopped due to lack of demand.
Early 2006 StreamZilla introduced StroboScope, a low cost, high performance technology to deliver increasing popular FLV files. Late 2006, StreamZilla added RTMP streaming for FLV (and later MP4) assets.
StreamZilla also started to migrate all delivery servers to efficient datacenters. By the end of 2006 all delivery servers were housed in energy efficient datacenters. StreamZilla became the first green CDN. StreamZilla CDNIn 2007, StreamZilla was awarded a triple A+ status for international streaming performance. The A+ status was awarded for each streaming delivery protocol (RTSP, RTMP, MMS). This is the highest ranking a streaming operator can achieve.
In 2008, StreamZilla delivered over two billion streams to a global audience. That is approximately 4% of YouTubes volume over 2008, which is a big achievement for a company that is in the professional Business to Business market, while YouTube is for the masses.
In October 2008, StreamZilla won the Streaming Media Magazine Readers' Choice Award for best European & UK CDN. StreamZilla entered the top-50 most innovative and successful Dutch media and communication companies and won the Emerce Top 100 Streaming category.
In 2009, StreamZilla launched a new website and introduced a brand new self service CDN center based on the latest VDO-X technology. This advanced CDN application allows all StreamZilla customers to manage assets, live streams, manage distribution and see realtime statistics.
StreamZilla also introduced the concept of a CDN within the CDN: resellers get dedicated, managed resources and their own CDN management console. It allows them to setup their own customers and sell their own streaming services to their market.
Today StreamZilla is a innovative, award winning market leader. StreamZilla has been profitable every year, has no debts, owns a lot of unique IP and is growing fast. |
